ABOUT Tamsyn
Tamsyn Leigh Bodwell (formerly Ackerman) is a ceramic artist residing in Biddeford, Maine. Bodwell has always incorporated art into her life, as a designer with Mill Pond Creative and as the co-founder of Engine, an arts nonprofit in downtown Biddeford that had been a catalyst for the burgeoning creative community until she left the organization in 2020. Bodwell had kept ceramics in her life since focusing on the art form at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota, where she earned her B.A. in Fine Art. After the world reopened following the pandemic, Bodwell returned to the art form she’s loved since college, ceramics, joining Chases Garage where she took lessons. Seeking a studio space closer to home in Biddeford, she was able to share a small, unheated corner of friend Derek Preble’s wood shop in the North Dam Mill. At a holiday craft fair in 2022, the seed was planted to start a small shared studio space (with heat) and that snowballed in 2023, into Mill Pond Ceramics Studio, a community clay studio. Bodwell continues with her own craft, learning from members and co-workers in the studio, but also following her passion for atmospheric firings (wood and raku) which can be seen in her online shop.
